Hallstatt Bus Parking – Rules, Terminal, and Booking

Hallstatt bus parking is strictly regulated, and if you’re visiting this picturesque village with a tour group or coach, it’s crucial to understand the official parking rules. Where Is the Bus Terminal in Hallstatt?
The Hallstatt Bus Terminal is located just after the southern entrance to the village, directly at the exit of the bypass tunnel. This area is strictly for passenger drop-off and pick-up only.
Day Tour Bus Parking Rules and Procedures in Hallstatt
If you’re operating a day trip to Hallstatt, here’s what you need to know:
- Drop-off at the Bus Terminal
Your coach must stop at the terminal to allow passengers to disembark. This area does not provide parking for day tours. - Maximum 20 Minutes
After passengers exit the coach, you have 20 minutes to leave the terminal. - Coach Moves to P3 Parking Area
The bus must then proceed 1.5 kilometers toward Obertraun to the P3 parking lot. The driver receives a parking ticket during check-in at the terminal. - Shuttle Service for Drivers
A shuttle can return the bus driver to Hallstatt after parking and later bring them back to the vehicle for departure.
Hallstatt Bus parking Slot Booking System (mandatory)
As of June 1st, 2020, all buses visiting Hallstatt must book a time slot in advance using the online platform:

How the Slot System Works:
- ✅ Register online
- 📅 Book your entry and exit time (minimum stay: 2 hours 20 minutes)
- 💳 Pay by credit card
- 🎟️ Receive a ticket with a QR code
- 🧾 Ticket is scanned at terminal entrance
- 🚌 Driver receives a P3 parking permit
- 🕰️ 20 minutes allowed at the terminal
Slot Cancellation Policy:
- >30 days before: 100% refund
- >14 days before: 50% refund
- <14 days: No refund
- ❌ Cancellation is possible up to 1 day before scheduled arrival.
Overnight Bus Parking in Hallstatt
If your group is staying overnight in Hallstatt, the process is different:
- Drop off guests at the Bus Terminal
- The bus may remain at the terminal until departure
- No slot booking or fee is required for overnight groups (exceptions may apply after 2022)
- Luggage transport should be coordinated directly with the hotel

Special Rules for School Groups
School groups are exempt from parking fees. However, they must still register either:

Motorhomes and Camper Vans
Motorhomes are not allowed to park at the bus terminal or village center.
- ✅ Park at the official campsite near the P1 parking lot or use P3 parking lot
- ⛺ Overnight stays are allowed only at the campsite
- 🚐 In Obertraun, you may park in any paid parking lots
